The union of man and woman in “one flesh” (Gen. 2:24) is among the wonders that God, in his ways, gave “in the beginning” (Matt. 19:8). The introduction of sin into the world, the lust and will of man, have corrupted and spoiled this divine provision, bringing with them a dark procession of miseries.
The New Testament, and with it Christianity, maintains the sanctity of this original divine institution, shedding remarkable light on the whole subject. In the midst of a world afflicted by sin, marriage carried out in this divine light provides inestimable help for those who love God, respect him and have dealings with him.
