Very early in the history of Christianity, the coming of the Lord in grace on the clouds to remove the saints from the present period of grace (John 14; 1 Thess. 4; 2 Thess. 1) was forgotten. This truth, brought to light at the time of the Awakening, was immediately fought by certain believers in the official churches. It is very instructive to see in what way the author, full of heart for his Lord and for souls, defended this truth with humility, gentleness, firmness and submission to the whole Word, contrasting the coming of the Lord and the day of the Lord in judgment on the earth to establish his millennial reign. We will also note several interesting remarks and examples on how to correctly interpret the Scriptures.
